I Think There’s Something You Should Know

“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.”-Judy Garland

So…the longer this blog challenge goes on, the more it becomes like a questionnaire from Teen Beat Magazine. What’s next, a entry that has me doing a game of M.A.S.H? ( I would totally do it too! And so would you…don’t lie.)

Today’s topic is all about my favorite quote(s). I love the quote above from Judy Garland. I wonder what she would think of the thousands of drag queens doing a third or forth rate version of her act decades after her death. I especially like this quote for my generation because all we seem to want to do is copy the copy of someone else’s idea. I know what girls my age say, “Thinking is hard, I want everyone to like me so, I’ll just do what she does.” That’s why we have a million Britney Spears and Kim Kardashian wannabes. I’d rather have a bunch of Judy Garland duplicates running around…at least they would wear panties!

“If you can’t say something good about someone, sit right here by me.”- Alice Roosevelt

Alice Roosevelt was Teddy’s oldest daughter and pretty much an all around bad ass. When she was a teenager her father was the President and apparently she was more difficult to deal with than Congress. TR said of her, “I can be President of the United States, or I can control Alice. I cannot possibly do both.” She calmed down and became the top person in the political social scene. You were a nobody until Alice invited you to a party. She lived to to be 96, dying in 1980.

The quote is from the pillow in the photo above (Christmas hint, I want that pillow Mom.)  Like Alice, I can not stand political correctness. I pay my taxes, therefore I am going to use the hell out of the First Amendment. Most people find it shocking when I say what I really think…or is it they’re more shocked that they think it too?

“How about do what you want?” -Grampa

I don’t know if my Grampa always did want he wanted but he told me this when I was in college…after my Granny told me to “do my homework, get plenty of sleep and don’t stay out too late,” and it’s always stuck with me.  It took me a few years to find what I really wanted to do and start doing it. Doing what you want, being original and not giving a crap what people think isn’t easy. Being yourself is more impressive than being an annoying sycophant.
